More than $220,000 raised by event to find cure for BC children with intestinal disorders
VANCOUVER, Sept. 8 /CNW/ - On Thursday, September 18th SUBWAY(R) Restaurants will donate $1 from every footlong and 50 cents from every six inch sandwich sold across BC to the CH.I.L.D. Foundation as part of its sixth annual SUBWAY(R) DAY for CHILD event.
SUBWAY(R) DAY for CHILD lasts all day at SUBWAY(R) restaurants. Across the province local TV and radio personalities will once again lend their talents as volunteer sandwich artists. With the generous support of local communities, media and sports personalities, sports teams, businesses, police and fire departments from across BC the event has raised more than $220,000 for the Child Foundation since it began in 1998.
Founded in 1995, CH.I.L.D. (Children with Intestinal and Liver Disorders) Foundation is dedicated to finding a cure for thousands of BC children who suffer from painful debilitating inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including Crohn's Disease, Ulcerative Colitis and Liver Disorders. (www.child.ca)
"More and more young children in BC are diagnosed each year with these painful disorders," says Grace McCarthy, President, CHILD Foundation. "More funding means more research and more research will lead to a cure."
Roger Bailes, SUBWAY(R) franchisee and market area chairman, says his SUBWAY(R) locations throughout the province are proud to contribute to the campaign to find a cure. "The amazing continued commitment of the communities and partners has made this event successful every year," says Bailes.
In addition to individual orders SUBWAY(R) restaurants will accept corporate and group orders up to 48 hours in advance.
Subway(R) Restaurants of BC have been serving up the freshest salads, soups and sandwiches since the first store opened in Kelowna in 1989. Since then, more than 270 stores have opened their doors to hungry communities from Fort Nelson to Victoria, BC.
